Shalom House

Shalom House provides ‘shelter based’ crisis accommodation for men (18 and over) who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The service operates from 5.00pm-8.00am daily throughout the winter months (May-October) and provides residential care, assessment, individualised support, and referral to other support services. Shalom House DOES NOT case manage Clients. Clients are able to book in one day prior or on the day for up to 2 weeks at a time. If you or someone you know would like to book a bed please contact the office on the information listed in the contacts page of this site or present at 320 Albany Highway by 5pm. Waitlist and early requests will not be accepted.

Shalom Access drop-in centre

Shalom Inc. runs a daily drop in centre from 10am-1pm on Mondays and Tuesdays. Volunteers are present to provide mentoring to Clients. Some of the more tangible services Shalom Access offers are; access to a shower for personal hygiene, a healthy meal, internet access and a laundry service. This, coupled with an empathetic ear and a kind word, provides a unique and viable service in Albany that is well utilized. Referral not required.

Shalom Garden

Shalom Garden is a space in which disadvantaged community members can come to grow vegetables, fruit and herbs. Shalom Inc. hopes that it will be a community hub for local people to meet and develop friendships and site for community engagement; activities that foster self-help; supportive environments that promote social inclusion and a place for developing links between individuals and groups; demonstration site for living and consuming in a sustainable manner and sustainable technologies; contributing to food security through local, community food systems; physical fitness, psychosocial benefits and nutritional health; building on local assets and creating recreational opportunities.  The garden can be accessed at any time however the lead gardener is present on Tuesday and Friday mornings. 

Referral Guidelines

A referral is not needed to access Shalom Inc. services. All are welcome to get in touch for assistance or information. Below is, however, some information that may assist your enquiries.

Access and Equity

Shalom Inc. provides support to anyone who comes to the door in need of information and referral, and assistance to individuals, families and homeless men who are presenting with issues that may affect their safety and health and well-being. If Clients are not within our target group they are referred to appropriate services for support as soon as possible but no longer than the following organisation day.
Service to all Clients will be applied in an equitable manner, with regards to any intellectual or physical disability, ethnicity, cultural and religious beliefs, or sexual preference.

Management and staff will take a non-discriminatory and non-judgmental approach in meeting Clients’ needs and assisting Clients to achieve stated goals during their stay at Shalom House or while partaking of Shalom Inc. services.

  3. Homeless or at risk of homelessness
  4. Case managed or willing to accept a referral to case management services

Shalom Access

  1. 18+ years
  2. Homeless or at risk and/or isolated/lonely

Shalom Garden
